Evaluation Containing Books The Law of Attraction: The Basics of the Teachings of Abraham
This book is written in the dialectic style of Socrates. From the peaceful slumber of a meditative state, Esther becomes in touch with (I dare say possessed by) the numinous figure of Abraham, the shepherd of her soul. Her husband Jerry is ecstatic. He uses his possessed wife as a channel through which Abraham shall answer the riddles of the universe. Quite the arrangement for a book about the main tenet of New Thought philosophy: the Law of Attraction. The Socratic method presupposes an

6 years ago I tried reading this book and hated its guts! Then I rated it 1*. Today I'm giving it 5*. Same book, different me. Embrace change! Change is good, change is normal. Do I feel bad for originally giving it 1*? No, the old me would feel that way, the new me is just happy she loves the book now. All is good!

This book was pretty wacky. It made a few good points, but in general the idea that everyone has complete free will, and all misfortune is self-induced is a very dangerous one. This kind of thinking contributes to scary modes of thought including rational self-interest and individualism, ideologies that actively deny the existence of social structures and cultural contexts. This justification of existing systems of inequality can only contribute to more human suffering.

Currently identifying what I want in life. I really enjoyed the segment intentions. Essentially our every day life is just made of segments i.e. going to work and coming home from work are two seperate segments.. what exactly are you wanting from that segment? I.e. going to work- "I want a job that I love. I am grateful for the job that I have currently but I am seeking a job that brings me more fulfilment". It changes your perspective.

The most powerful part of this for me was "segment intention." The rest of it I've read in the Secret or from other New Age authors. The "channeled" element of this book is interesting. Has anyone else listened to recordings of Ester Hicks/Abraham from the 80's? She had a much thicker "channeled" accent then, I wonder what changed it with time...

When it comes to 'self-help' type books, I have read 'em all. Over the years I have scoured book stores and market stalls seeking that one book that would answer all my questions AND motivate me to get things happening in my life. 'The Law of Attraction' is truly the first book I have read, that encompasses everything that is required for success and inner peace. I read the entire book within 3 days, put it down and realised I had found THE book! Since then I have been applying these new

Wasn't sure how to rate this book...Personally I wasn't a fan. While I do believe from my own experience of it that we do attract based on our vibrations (to some extent- not necessarily exactly the specific thing we've been dreaming about), I did not appreciate this presentation of the LoA. There are a tonne of run-on sentences and strange ways of explaining things that made this easy enough concept a bit of a drag to read. Here's an example from pg. 79:"But as you recognize that this Guidance
