Commentary Conducive To Books Sharpe's Regiment (The Sharpe Series #17)

Book 17 in the Richard Sharpe series.

Another great addition to this highly entertaining series.

The premise for these books is a history of the Peninsular Wars all wrapped up in an exciting narrative concerning the rise and rise of a gutter urchin ‘Richard Sharpe’.

Major Richard Sharpe and his Sergeant Patrick Harper have returned to England in search of his missing, but promised, battalion. What he finds is nothing more than a military slave trade. Men are enlisted with the promise wealth and excitement and then marched off to a secret location to be trained. The government paid these men a pittance but they never see a penny of it as it all goes into the pockets of the, already, rich and powerful. Once trained they are they sold to the highest bidding regiment, all proceeds, again going into the pockets of the powerful. This, it seems, was a normal part of raising and army in Britain.

Sharpe finds his missing men but the problem is that they are about to be sold but not to his regiment.

Sharpe’s need for these men is paramount so he hatches a plan to recover his lost regiment.

What follows is a dangerously thrilling adventure where Shapre and his small band of followers take on the unscrupulous but powerful Minister of Defence.
With all this going on he still finds time to fall in love with most beautiful woman in England. As you do.

A bit light on historical battles but big on tense, thrilling action.

Comes with my 4 star recommendation.

Assessment Epithetical Books Sharpe's Regiment (The Sharpe Series #17)
A fictional account of the real venality, greed and political double-dealing occurring in England among the high placed elite who make profits at the expense of the military. The plump English country, rich with farms, fields & food, that are sorely lacking in Spain and Portugal. The contrast between the high-life of the aristocrats, who pompously assume the trappings of warriors and the troops in their desperate conditions and deep trust and camaraderie. 1813, fall, when it was supposed

Getting toward the end of the Sharpe series of books, not far from Warterloo and the end of the Napoleonic wars. Sharpe has waged war across India, Portugal and Spain and is now about to enter France, but first a trip back to Blighty to pick up some men. Don't seem to be getting any recruits from home, but that's because there's someone up to some shenanigans. Sharpe also manages to work his way through the female population of any country he's in. Wonder if he's an ancestor of James Bond, only

I've read quite a bit of Mr Cornwell's stuff, although I've avoided the Sharpe series as I watched the tv series which was very enjoyable. However, as this book was on offer at Asda(wallmart) for only £1.00 I decided to give it a go!First up I never realized how miscast Sean Bean was. He's a northerner with a pronounced northern accent and it appears from this book that Sharpe was from the slums of London and should've sounded more like an early Michael Caine.Anyhow back to the book. I

Bookended with scenes on the continent, but the bulk of the story is a change of pace for the series with its focus on domestic political intrigue in England. Both informative and entertaining, it establishes new characters who hopefully will continue in the series and seamlessly re-introduces old ones as well.

It's written by Bernard Cornwell, writer of historical fiction. It features Richard Sharpe, who has risen from the ranks of the 18th century British army to Major (not easily done), and features (as almost always): Sgt Patrick Harper, a beautiful girl, and a cast of villains who wish to get rich/betray the British/ruin Sharpe. It is of the usual quality for this writer and this series.'Nuff said. Read it

Another thrilling adventure from Richard Sharpe. This time, Major Sharpe hunts down the missing battalion for his replacement troops. It was a nice change of pace to see more of a political intrigue story than a war story. But yet again, Richard Sharpe is victorious over yet another impossible situation. Even say that, the stories never get old and the characters are always entertaining.
