Alternate Cover Edition for ISBN: 9780786849567 Ten thousand years ago, humans and fairies fought a great battle for the magical island of Ireland. When it became clear to the fairy families that they could never win, they decided to move their civilisation underground and keep themselves hidden from the humans. All the fairy families agreed on this, except the eighth family, the demons. The demons planned to lift their small island out of time until they had regrouped and were ready to wage war on the humans once more. However, the time spell went wrong, and the island of Hybras was catapulted into Limbo, where it has remained for ten thousand years. Now, the tainted time spell is deteriorating and demons are being sucked back into the present space and time. The fairy Council are naturally concerned about this and are monitoring any materialisations. When the spell’s deterioration accelerates, the materialisations become unpredictable. Even the fairy scientists cannot figure out where the next demon will pop up. But someone can. Artemis Fowl, the teenage criminal mastermind, has solved temporal equations that no normal human should be intelligent enough to understand. But Artemis Fowl is no normal human. So when a confused and frightened demon pops up in a Sicilian theatre, Artemis Fowl is there to meet him. Unfortunately, he is not the only one. A second, mysterious party has also solved the temporal equations, and manages to abduct the demon before Artemis can secure him. This is a disaster for the fairy People, because this demon was no ordinary fairy. He was the last demon warlock, and as such held the key to the survival of the entire demon race. It is up to Artemis and his old comrade Captain Holly Short to track down the missing demon and rescue him before the time spell dissolves completely and the lost demon colony returns violently to Earth.Rating About Books The Lost Colony (Artemis Fowl #5)

4.5*Crikey! How far can Eoin Colfers imagination go? Pretty far it seems :O) This fifth instalment is another Crazy adventure, mixing the Mission Impossible elements Ive come to absolutely love - the way Artemis Fowl puts together those plans of his!!! - with time travel! Yep, it is totally mental. Add our beloved characters (with Artemis starting to feel the effects of puberty!), a few new ones (Number One wins my vote) and the whole thing becomes one of the best in the series! So Much Fun!I LOVE THIS SERIES! The way Eoin Colfer raises the stakes with every book while deepening the characters and their relationships is so amazing. So good, I didn't want to put it down.
While I very much love this series, I had found it difficult to finish this book when I read it. I got half way through and just stopped, which is weird because this is my second favourite series. But I do feel that there was just a little too much going on for me, and a lot of new characters. And, on a personal side, I didn't at all enjoy Minerva. She didn't even grow on me like characters usually do. But there are some interesting developments that are key in book too and definitely worth the

(A-) 83% | Very GoodNotes: It's about puberty, instability and bodily change, (view spoiler)[with a rescue plot practically a beat-for-beat mirror of the first book (hide spoiler)].

Ive been trying to work my way through Artemis Fowl, because its been years since I read this series and its the one that got me into reading when I was a kid. And Im realizing now upon finishing this book that I dont think I got to this book when I was younger, because I remembered nothing about it. But that was nice, because its adding another element to this series that has always had a special place for me. It may be for a younger crowd, but its so incredibly entertaining. The Lost Colony
Fantastic. I loved it!
