JS Bateman is originally from Seattle, Washington. A graduate of the University of Washington, he served 32 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Colonel in 2010. His military experience was mostly in law enforcement and antiterrorism, including three stints as Chief of Police. He holds a BA and MS in Criminal Justice, and an MA in History. Since his retirement from the military, he hasClearly given our last names, I personally know the author - there you go, full disclosure! But if you knew me and you knew my brother, you'd know that if this wasn't any good, I would be silent. The truth is, for his first book he did a darn good job. It's a clever book with twists and turns that are both fun and unexpected. Jeff's long history with law enforcement gave this ride the safety harness it needed to allow the reader to fully enjoy the trip. I'm exceedingly proud of my brother andThere was a whole lot of dying really early on into this book. The story was interesting and the sleuthing was good, but too many bodies. I also felt that the author was trying too hard to make the setting Logan. It felt forced. But an okay read.
Captivating and thrilling, this is definitely a must-read! I was hooked from page one.
Loved it. Very "interesting" characters and an exciting ending. I hope the story continues.

Reading "On the Death Beat" is very much like hearing the author tell you the story, which is how I first heard it. I read voraciously, and while I would never pick up a James Patterson, or a Michael Connelly, I enjoyed this immensely. Those who do enjoy those authors will find something new here. I adored the wit and humor in the obituaries found throughout the book, and confess I was really looking forward to reading Jason's for himself.I also appreciated the ring of authenticity in the
